Studio u+a is a multidisciplinary, full service international design practice with offices in New York, London, Delhi (Gurgaon).
Founded by Vinay Kapoor and Shirley Fujikawa in 1995, Studio u+a achieves a range of creative and innovative built work. With expertise in urban design, architecture and interior design, the principals and staff of Studio u+a are committed to the creation of an urban architecture for our time.
With the collaboration of an international network of consultants, studio u+a realizes the seamless implementation of our design visions from concept to completion.
Our Vision And Values
We celebrate the making of memorable places in support of sustainable communities. While challenged and inspired by the cultural contexts within which we work, we explore the application of traditional place making practices expressed in a contemporary aesthetic language and material sensibility.

Architecture
Studio u+a is a full-service architectural firm, from the analysis of program, to the several stages of design and technical development in concert with our consultants, through construction and post-occupancy.

Urban Design / Master Planning
Studio u+a is dedicated to the realisation of a humane, legible and sustainable urban environment. Among our key areas of expertise is that of urban design and master planning.
Whether envisioning an entire city, a large-scale intervention or a stand-alone building, we begin with an understanding of context. Our projects feature a diversity of uses and architectural scales in relation to a hierarchy of open spaces and verdant landscapes.

Interior Design
Whether realising the public spaces within our own buildings, the multiple layers of a hotel environment, or those of a private residence, interiors represent the finest grain of design.
Our interior designs evolve using a narrative technique, telling a story in form and material as a legible sequence of spaces.
Our People
As evidenced by our credentials and experience, our expert team of principals and senior staff have realized a diverse body of work. From master planning, campus planning, townships, large-scale commercial and residential developments, to individual buildings and interiors, we have worked successfully at all scales.
Vinay Kapoor
Is the co-founder of Studio u+a and received a Master of Architecture from University of Toronto and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University.
He has extensive experience in the design and management of large scale urban projects of the highest international standards. Vinay was a senior executive responsible for design for Olympia & York on the World Financial Centre in New York City and later at Canary Wharf in London. He also managed the design and development of three complex large scale projects for Reichmann International in Mexico City.
Shirley Fujikawa AIA
Co-founded Studio u+a in 1995. She received a Master of Architecture from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and is a Registered Architect in New York State.
Shirley is the Principal Designer of Studio u+a, with an interest in projects of urban scale and complexity and interior design
She has led projects in North America, Europe and India
Prior to the formation of Studio u+a, Shirley was a consultant to Olympia & York on the design of public spaces at Canary Wharf in London and later to Reichmann International on the design of two large scale mixed-use developments in Mexico City
Joseph De Pace
Joined Studio u+a New York as a Principal in 2004. Holding a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the City College of New York and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University.
He is also a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome. As a sole proprietor in New York from 1985 to 2004, Joseph realized a broad range of projects, from private residences both locally and abroad, to significant works of public art throughout the United States.
Peter Ching
Joined Studio u+a London as a Principal in 2007. He has over 40 years of experience on large scale urban design and architectural projects in New York, Boston, London, Rome and India.
Peter received his Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University and attended foreign study abroad in Italy as well as the London’s Architectural Association and the Institute for Architecture and Urban Studies in New York. Peter participated on the Canary Wharf Development in London from 1989 to 2006. His UK projects include the Scottish Equitable Headquarters Building, the Reader's Digest Headquarters, and the Pacific Quay Master Plan in Glasgow.
Sugato Debgupta
Has been a member of Studio u+a since 2004 and currently leads Studio u+a India in Gurgaon. He holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Architecture from Jadavpur University.
He is registered with the Council of Architecture India, is an Indian Green Building Council Accredited Professional and an Associate Member of the Indian Institute of Architects. With over 30 years of professional experience, Sugato has worked as a team leader and project director on a number of master planning, architectural and interior design projects.
